Summertime Stride 5K

Date:  Saturday, June 6, 2015 (rain or shine)

Time:  8:30am 5K Run & Walk start (9:30am Kids Dash start)

NEW Start/Finish Location:  Willowview Park (11420 West 197th Street, Mokena)

Event Components: 5K (3.1 mile) USATF-certified course and transponder-timed run and fun walk followed by kids dashes, refreshments, entertainment and an awards ceremony.

Registration times:  7:30am-8:25am at registration tent on event day in Willowview Park parking lot

Registration Fees:  5K Run & Walk:  $20 pre-registration by 5pm on Thursday, June 4; $25 day of event

                                      Kids Dash (10 and under): $5* (*does not include t-shirt)

WWII, Vietnam and Korean War Veterans: All WWII, Vietnam and Korean War Veterans registration fee is waived and will also receive a race packet.

2) Walk-in: Bring in your completed registration form, signed waiver and payment to the Mokena Community Park District, 10925 W La Porte Rd prior to 5pm on Thursday, June 4.

Packet Pick-up: Pre-registrants (registered by June 4) can pick up their bib number with transponder, race packet and dri-fit t-shirt at Sports Authority Frankfort (11185 W Lincoln Hwy) on Friday, June 5 from 3-6pm or event day at the registration tent in Willowview Park between 7:30am-8:25am.

T-shirt: Dri-fit t-shirts will be provided to the first 300 paid 5K Run/Walk registrants. We will make our best efforts to accommodate your preferred t-shirt size. T-shirts are running big!

Course/Split Times/Water:The USATF certified run and walk course will start heading south on 115th Avenue, to 197th Street, west to Townline/PFC Aaron Toppen Memorial Drive, west on Black Ridge Drive, south on Juniper, east on Ashbrook Lane and starts and finishs at Willowview Park. Split times, mile markers and water station will be available on the course. 

Team Challenge: Teams must consist of at least three (3) or more and team awards will be presented to the top winners.  Contact the Special Events Dept at 708-390-2416.

Kid’s Dashes: Registered children 10 and under can participate in kids dashes at approximately 9:30am from the start line. Kid’s dash distances and heats will vary by age.  The projected distances are as follows:

                  *4 years old and under                50 yards (75 feet out and 75 feet back)

                   *5 & 6 years old                        100 yards (150 feet out and 150 feet back)

                   *7 & 8 years old                        220 yards (330 feet out and 330 feet back)

                   *9 & 10 years old                      328 yards (490 feet out and 490 feet back)

All kids dash participants will receive a Meijer canvas tote bag filled with sunglasses, placemat and crayons as well as Sports Authority Frisbee and temporary tattoo, voucher for a free kids scoop of frozen custard at Culvers Frankfort, chicken sandwich or nuggets voucher at Chick-fil-A of Orland Park and a participant ribbon at the finish line.  

Raffles/Awards: An awards ceremony will start after the kids dashes have completed. The Best Overall Male & Female run winners will receive medals and a drawstring bag with $25 Sports Authority gift card; two free bowling games at Orland Bowl and Sports Authority water bottle. The top three 5K winners in the following age categories: 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+ will also receive medals.  1st Place Winners will also receive a drawstring bag with Sports Authority cup. We will also be awarding framed certificates to the Largest and Fastest Teams that participated in our Team Challenge in the awards ceremony.

All paid registrants today will be automatically entered into a free drawing and will be held during the awards ceremony!  Winner must be present to win. Raffle prizes include gifts from Orland Bowl, Phillips Chevrolet, Zanies Comedy Club and Winestyles. 

Refreshments: Refreshments will be available following the run/walk including Chick-fil-a of Orland Park chicken sandwiches, ZonePerfect Bars, Lifeway Kefir, Nature's Bakery Fig Bars, water, fruit, bagels and more!  

Entertainment: Pre-race cerermony starts at 8:00am and includes Mokena’s William Martin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 725 to post colors, Elena Karnezis from Lincoln Way East High School to sing our National Anthem, The Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Police Department performance and fitness warm-up.

Whiffle Ball Homerun Derby - July 18

Saturday, July 18 at The Oaks East Field - 9:30 a.m. check-in. This exciting new event allows boys and girls to compete in one of our nation's favorite backyard games. Contest is open to boys and girls in the following age divisions: 6-7. 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 - boys and girls competing seperately. Age is as of December 31, 2015. Park District will supply bats and whiffle balls, participants will supply their own pitcher. Top scorer in each division wins a prize. Fee of $10 for resients, $12 for non-residents. Sell your old and new wares at this annual Flea Market.  We welcome fresh produce, new and used crafts, clothing, tools, etc.  Spend a day selling and swapping.  Groups/organizations welcome.  Concessions will be available.

-Pre-registration fee $20 (by 4pm on Friday, July 17 / Registering the day of the event is $25

-15’ X 15’ area provided for set-up and additional space for one (1) vehicle behind booth must fit in 15' x 15'

-If you park a vehicle and trailer (adding up to 30 ft long) you must purchase two (2) spaces.  Any vehicles and trailers longer will need to purchase the correct amount of spaces as to the length of their vehicles.

-A $5 fee will be charged for each additional vehicle accompanying a seller to load/unload

-Registration fees are non-refundable

-Check-in time for vendors: 6:45 a.m. Vendors that want spaces together must check-in together (NO EXCEPTIONS).  Spaces cannot be reserved for late-comers

-Any vendor arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be assessed at $10 late fee

-Buyers admitted free at 8:00 a.m.

-Bring your own table, chairs, etc. 

-Spaces are determined by staff on a first-come, first-serve basis

-Call the Park Office in advance if you are planning to sell food or drink items.  Restrictions apply.

Rules:

1)      Registration will be limited to 10 participants per division

2)      No hands can be used

3)      The first person to finish his/her whole pie and stand up will be declared the winner!

4)      Any visible signs of sickness will cause disqualification.

5)      A completed registration form with acknowledgement of the waiver must be signed by all contestants prior to the start of each contest. Children under 18 must also have a parent or guardian present, and must also have a parent or guardian’s signature on their registration form.

6)      In the event of a tie, the judges will determine a first place winner based on who ends up wearing the most pie and the biggest smile.

7th Annual Quilt Show and Competition

The Oaks Recreation & Fitness Center 

A variety of quilts will be on display at The Oaks Field House during Farm & Barn Fest.  Entries are submitted by quilters from all over the south suburbs.  A People’s Choice award will be judged during the show.  To submit your quilt, contact the Special Events Department at 708-390-2416 by August 1.

 

Country Concert

5:30p.m.-11:00p.m. at Yunker Farm

Attention country lovers!  Join us for a night of rockin’ fun with great bands including Fire Chicken and headliner, WILD DAISY.  Alcohol, beer and wine are available for purchase.  $3/entry for adults 21 and over.  Children are allowed at no charge with parental supervision only.  

NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick

NFL Punt, Pass, Kick Event

The NFL and USA Football wants every child to be given an equal opportunity to complete.  This FREE program creates a lively and engaging forum for boys and girls to complete separately against their peers in punting, passing, and kicking.  Contest is open to boys and girls divisions as follows:  6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13 (boys and girls competing separately).  Age is determined as of December 31, 2015.  Top scorer for all the divisions from each Local Competition will advance to the Sectional Competition in October.  Starting June 1, visit www.nflppk.com for more information and to register.

Woofstock: A Bark in the Park & Pet Parade

     Pet Parade Registration: 1:00p.m.-1:30p.m/Woofstock Contest Registration: 1:00p.m.–2:00p.m. (no pre-registration)

Location: Main Park-Picnic Grove (10925 W La Porte Road, Mokena)

FREE to participate! 

We will kick-off the event with the Pet Parade which includes a ¼ mile fun walk along the Main Park wooded trail at 1:30 p.m. – Registration begins at 1:00 p.m.  All animals are welcome for the parade.  Parade prizes will be awarded to the top winners in the following categories:

  • Best Dressed
  • Most Exotic
  • Most Original
  • Smallest Pet
  • Largest Pet

 *Costumes are optional! 

Following the parade is an afternoon of canine contests for our four-legged friends. The top three winners will be awarded in each contest. Start training your pooch now so they can place in our contests:

  • Best Tail Wagger
  • Hot Dog Relay

For the safety of your dog and others, please be sure the dog’s vaccinations are current.  All dogs must be on a leash.
