Senior Spelling Bee - May 5

The Illinois State Senior Spelling Bee competition is an exciting statewide program that provides Illinois adults age 50 and older the opportunity to showcase alifetime of knowledge, and to celebrate years of experience through spelling abilities!Can you spell palindrome? Or malapropism? How about minuscule? Well then grab your honey and show off your spelling talents at a Senior Spelling Bee! It's a fun, brain-healthy activity, and it's FREE! Local winners and runner-ups will advance to regional semi-finals. The State Finals will be held at the 2015 Illinois State Fair on Senior Day. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in the Walnut Room of the Oaks Recreation and Fitness Center. Registration opens at 12:30, the Bee begins at 1:00 p.m.

 

Outdoor Flea Market - May

Date:  Sunday, May 24

Times: 8:00am-2:00pm

Location: Oaks East Soccer Field (10847 W La Porte Road)

Sell your old and new wares at this annual Flea Market.  We welcome fresh produce, new and used crafts, clothing, tools, etc.  Spend a day selling and swapping.  Groups/organizations welcome.  Concessions will be available.

-Pre-registration fee $20 (by 4pm on Friday, May 22) / Registering the day of the event is $25

-15’ X 15’ area provided for set-up and additional space for one (1) vehicle behind booth must fit in 15' x 15'

-If you park a vehicle and trailer (adding up to 30 ft long) you must purchase two (2) spaces.  Any vehicles and trailers longer will need to purchase the correct amount of spaces as to the length of their vehicles.

-A $5 fee will be charged for each additional vehicle accompanying a seller to load/unload

-Registration fees are non-refundable

-Check-in time for vendors: 6:45 a.m. Vendors that want spaces together must check-in together (NO EXCEPTIONS).  Spaces cannot be reserved for late-comers

-Any vendor arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be assessed at $10 late fee

-Buyers admitted free at 8:00 a.m.

-Bring your own table, chairs, etc. 

-Spaces are determined by staff on a first-come, first-serve basis

-Call the Park Office in advance if you are planning to sell food or drink items.  Restrictions apply.

-Vendors are allowed to sell fresh produce.

-All vendors must be selling or trading item/s that individuals can receive on-site at event.

-Vendors are responsible for cleaning up their area at the end of the flea market. No trash or unsold items area to be left at your space

-All vendor spaces must be cleared by 3:30pm!!

Summertime Stride 5K

Date:  Saturday, June 6, 2015 (rain or shine)

Time:  8:30am 5K Run & Walk start (9:30am Kids Dash start)

NEW Start/Finish Location:  Willowview Park (11420 West 197th Street, Mokena)

Registration times:  7:30am-8:25am at registration tent on event day in Willowview Park parking lot

Registration Fees:  5K Run & Walk:  $20 pre-registration by 5pm on Thursday, June 4; $25 day of event

                                      Kids Dash (10 and under): $5* (*does not include t-shirt)

T-shirt: Dri-fit t-shirts will be provided to the first 300 paid 5K Run/Walk registrants. We will make our best efforts to accommodate your preferred t-shirt size. T-shirts are running big!

Event Components: 5K (3.1 mile) USATF-certified course and transponder-timed run and fun walk followed by kids dashes, refreshments, entertainment and an awards ceremony.

Course/Split Times/Water: The certified course is run out and back primarily on streets throughout Mokena. Split times & markers and water station will be available on the course. 

Kid’s Dashes: Registered children 10 and under can participate in kids dashes at approximately 9:30am from the start line. Kid’s dash distances and heats will vary by age. All participants will receive a ribbon. 

Awards: An awards ceremony will start after the kids dashes have completed and will include awards to the Best Overall Male and Female run winners as well as the top three winners in the following age categories: 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+.

Refreshments/Entertainment: Refreshments will be available following the run/walk including Chick-fil-a of Orland Park chicken sandwiches, ZonePerfect Bars, Lifeway Kefir, Nature's Bakery Fig Bars, water, fruit, bagels and more! 

Directions/Parking: Free parking is available at St. Mary's Church/School at 19515 115th Avenue.

NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick

NFL Punt, Pass, Kick Event

The NFL and USA Football wants every child to be given an equal opportunity to complete.  This FREE program creates a lively and engaging forum for boys and girls to complete separately against their peers in punting, passing, and kicking.  Contest is open to boys and girls divisions as follows:  6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13 (boys and girls competing separately).  Age is determined as of December 31, 2015.  Top scorer for all the divisions from each Local Competition will advance to the Sectional Competition in October.  Starting June 1, visit www.nflppk.com for more information and to register.

Woofstock: A Bark in the Park & Pet Parade

We will kick-off the event with the Pet Parade which includes a ¼ mile fun walk along the Main Park wooded trail at 1:30 p.m. – Registration begins at 1:00 p.m.  All animals are welcome for the parade.  Parade prizes will be awarded to the top winners in the following categories:

  • Best Dressed
  • Most Exotic
  • Most Original
  • Smallest Pet
  • Largest Pet

 *Costumes are optional! 

Following the parade is an afternoon of canine contests for our four-legged friends. The top three winners will be awarded in each contest. Start training your pooch now so they can place in our contests:

  • Best Tail Wagger
  • Hot Dog Relay

For the safety of your dog and others, please be sure the dog’s vaccinations are current.  All dogs must be on a leash.
