Address:
10824 LaPorte Road
Mokena IL, 60448

This 116.25 acre site was purchased in 1997. Approx. 48 acres lay south of LaPorte Road, with the remaining 68 acres on the north side. In 2006, the McGovney-Yunker Homestead, located on the north parcel, was granted entry to the National Register of Historic Places, for its significant contribution to the history of the area. The homestead is comprised of a number of original farm structures, and is the host site of several community-wide events, including the Park District Farm & Barn Fest, and the Mokena Chamber of Commerce Food & Wine Festival. The remainder of the 68 acre site continues to be farmed by a local farmer. In 2014, voters approved a 6 million dollar referendum for capitol imporvements to both the north and south sides of the property. On the north side, the outside of the farm buildings have been refurbished. In addition, there will be a dog park with seperate areas for large and small dogs, a splash pad, a concert amphitheatre with tiered grass seating, and community gardens which will have several raised ADA accessible beds. Improvements to the south side include an addition of a gymnasium to the Oaks Recreation and Fitness Center, as well as additional parking. The Park District greatly appreciates the confidence and trust the voters have shown us as we work to bring you better and better facilities and programming.
